Where Our Bread Originates
All products of the Anthony’s Fine Bread range are made according to authentic Italian recipes, using traditional methods and have basically been unchanged for generations.
Dallas Breads have a multitude of origins, but are mostly European based.
Our Rye Breads are made using the ancient method of multi stage Sourdough as commonly used in Germany and Austria, we produce Rye Breads in accordance to recipes handed down for centuries.
Our Potato Bread has its roots in the Scandinavian part of Europe, where the flavour of smoked meats and potatoes is truly appreciated. Most small bakeries in the northern parts of Europe are producing a variation of Potato Bread. This one is our’s!
Our Corn Bread is a base on a recipe as used in the United States of America. American’s do appreciate the full flavour of corn as well as a little zest from the sourdough. So we took all this facts into consideration when developing our version of Corn Bread.
Our Sourdough Cob is produced after an old French recipe. For ages French men and women enjoyed the subtle sour taste of this version of Sourdough bread. Not as sour as similar loafs from neighboring countries, this is true French Sourdough.
Dr. Allinson is named after Dr. Thomas Allinson, an English doctor, who discovered Naturopathy- medicine which avoids the use of drugs and encourages the consumption of natural foods. Over the years he became a well known and controversial figure, became embroiled in years of conflict with the Royal College of Physicians, the general Medical Council and the courts, over his views on health and the treatment of disease. His main belief was the importance of a healthy diet, emphasizing the goodness of stone ground Wholemeal Flour. In 1892 he purchased a stone grinding flour mill, which produced Wholemeal flour, and soon after opened a bakery at the mill producing his own bread. |
By the time of his death in 1918, demand for stoneground flour had dramatically risen and continued to rise beyond his wildest expectations. The company was expanded with the purchase of two more stonegrinding flour mills and the recipes used to produce this healthy Wholemeal Bread remained unchanged.
Our 5-Seed bread is based on a German recipe which was originally developed by Barbara Ruetting. Barbara was born in 1927 as the oldest of 5 children in Berlin. Her plans to become a doctor were put to a hold and shortly before the end of WWII, the Red Cross sent her to Denmark, where she worked as a house maid. She picked up the local language quickly, and found a job in a Danish library before working as a foreign correspondent in Copenhagen. In 1952 started to act and played in movies with stars like Sophia Loren and Kirk Douglas. Still very interested in medicine, Barbara developed healthy bread, which was released on the market in the early 70 th. After graduating as a consultant in health she wrote several books highlighting the importance of good food. Our version has taken all her considerations into account and remains unchanged to this day. |
